Farewell, Farewell

No, I am not going anywhere. I will be on a brief hiatus until sometime next week, pending arrival of my new macbook. Yes, I have a desktop at home, but I rarely use it as I hate being tied to my office with a household to run, a puppy to train and a husband to clean up after (or vice versa haha).

My HP laptop is formatted into oblivion, packed up and somewhere with UPS being sent to it’s new jerkface. er.. owner who is a great friend and deserves a laptop. Mainly because I hate IMing his phone!

Anyway, farewell til next week. Or when I have a free moment at work during lunch.

I Borked it!

I got a few emails today letting me know the site was down, which made me happy because they were from people I don’t know, so I am pleased that people actually read me. So thanks!

Anyway, it was completely my fault - I switched webhosts last night, who by the way are absolutely amazing and the transition was done for me and was nearly seamless. I wouldn’t have had any downtime at all, but I messed up and didn’t notice a couple of my databases weren’t matched up properly before I told my old host to go ahead and shut me down. It was fine, but I just couldn’t remember which matched up with which (oops) and then couldn’t go back and reference the old setup.

Anyway, once I got home from work and had time to really look, I realized it was that simple and fixed it.

Props to my new Host for being willing to go in and completely reinstall from backup if I couldn’t fix it though - I know its a pain in the ass and my fault completely for being overeager.

Anyway, I switched to Drak.net (plugplugplug) which was a really hard decision for me because I had been with my old host since shortly after they opened (8ish years, I think?) but the past two years have been really rough on the customer service end (and I am a very low maintenance customer). They have become rude and downright nasty sometimes, and I have just been waiting to find someone else. I used to use Draknet free webhosting AGES and AGES ago and when someone mentioned them the other day, I decided to check them out.

A) Better pricing

B) Better balance on features for each account level

C) Customer service has been A+ so far. From the Support emails while transferring to the support chat guy I talked to before making my decision, it has been EXCELLENT.

I am very pleased.

I just finished installing Vista on my Notebook. I would never have spent the money on it, but since I got a free upgrade when I bought it, I figured why not. This is my “clean” computer, meaning I have the basics on it (email, browser, office, and basic webdesign stuff) so I wasn’t worried about losing any function.

It’s okay. It’s trying a little too hard to be like a Mac OS, but whatever. It’s pretty and extra “user friendly” which I guess is helpful.

So anyway, I had a very nice phone interview with someone from a company that is hiring for an online, work at home position on Tuesday (yes, it’s a legit job, and a legit company. I’ll share it after I know if I have the job or not) and the woman I spoke to was great, and I think she liked me too. I got a call today to go in for an in person interview (but I missed the call, dangit - I was waiting for it all day and the one time I walk away from my cell for 5 minutes to check the mail, they called!) so I get to call back tomorrow first thing and set up a time to drive up to L.A. for a tour of the actual office, meet the people I’d be working with via my computer and have a real interview. The person I spoke to yesterday as well as the message I got today sound extremely promising, and I am hopeful.

I also expect to hear back from one of the other places I interviewed this week by Friday. I am hopeful about this one too. The thing about both of these positions is that they will work well together scheduling-wise, as well as allow me to take more classes at school. I will actually be able to graduate before the decade is over without getting stressed out at work. Getting one of the positions will help immensely, but both would be a dream come true for me right now.

Send me good vibes!
